An excellent reader of the game and versatile centre back, Andreas Christensen (10 April 1996) was born in Lillerød (Denmark) where he started out at IF Skjold Birkerød, soon catching the eye of Brøndby IF.
Chelsea then spotted the potential of the centre back, and he was just 15 when he joined their youth system, and on 28 October 2014, at the age of 18, he made his pro debut against Shrewsbury Town in the League Cup.
In 2015, he was loaned to Borussia Mönchengladbach, and spent two seasons in the Bundesliga, quickly consolidating his role in the German team to the extent that he was named player of the season, earning him the reputation as one of the European game’s hottest defensive prospects.
In 2017, he went back to Chelsea to become a key component of Antonio Conte’s plans. In the following seasons he helped the Londoners to a first ever Champions League and Club World Cup.
In 2022/23, his first campaign as a blaugrana, he quickly became first choice at the back for coach Xavi Hernández. His ability to bring the ball out and his defensive solidity played a big role in allowing the club to claim the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga titles in that season.
Andreas has played for his country since 2015 and has gone on to make over 50 appearances. After featuring at the Russia 2018 World Cup he then helped the team to an impressive run to the semi-finals of Euro 2020.
