Barça defender Andreas Christensen has been named as Danish player of the year for 2023 after a vote amongst fellow professionals from the Scandinavian country. The award is organised by the Danish Football Federation and the blaugrana could not contain his delight at being honoured by his fellow footballers: "This award means a lot to me because they are my fellow professionals who have voted. That is very special."
The central defender succeeds Tottenham Hotspur's Pierre-Emile Højbjerg who collected the award last season but is still some way off from the record held by Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen who has taken the prize on no less than five separate occasions.
Christensen's great year at Barça
Andreas Christensen has had an excellent 12 months at Barça, winning the league title and the Spanish Super Cup with the blaugranes. In 2023 he made 41 appearances for the club, scoring once and establishing himself as a fixture in the back four for coach Xavi Hernández.
The defender has special memories of claiming the league title in 2023, confessing "the last game at Camp Nou, lifting the trophy with my family is something that stands out."
