A combative and technically gifted midfielder Pablo Páez Gavira, better known as 'Gavi', was born in the town of Los Palacios y Villafranca near Seville. As a youngster he made his way to the youth system at Real Betis where he spent two seasons representing the verdiblancos at the Luis del Sol training complex just a stone's throw from the Benito Villamarín stadium.
A complete midfielder with a winning character to match, Gavi made his fateful move to FC Barcelona for the 2015/16 season. He first represented the blaugranes at U12 level before moving through the youth categories quickly to reach the U19 squad. After impressing quickly it was not long before he made his debut for Barça B and in preseason in 2020 coach Ronald Koeman decided to include him with the first team players at the Club.
His progression did not stop there. At the age of 17 years and 24 days he made his La Liga debut for Barça, the fourth youngest player ever to do so back in August of 2021. In September 2022, Gavi signed a contract extension until 2026 and became an official first team member. The following month the midfielder was the recipient of the Kopa Trophy, the award handed out by the prestigious magazine France Football to the best player of the year under the age of 21. In 2022/ 23 he won his first honours with the first team with victory in the Spanish Super Cup and the league.
His performances for Barça quickly attracted the attention of Spain coach Luis Enrique Gavi also became the youngest player to win an international cap for Spain at the age of 17 years and 62 days when started the UEFA Nations League semi final against Italy in October 2021. In the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 he became the youngest player to play and score in the tournament for Spain. In his team's opening fixture against Costa Rica, Gavi found the net and was named man of the match.
