Frenkie de Jong was born in Arkel (Netherlands) on May 12, 1997. The Barça player started his career at Willem II in the Eredivise, the Dutch first division. In 2016 he signed for Ajax, where he gradually gained a place in the starting eleven. His versatility and his great vision allowed him to become the midfield organiser for the team from Amsterdam.
With Ajax, the versatile midfielder on won the Dutch league title and the Dutch Cup as well helping the Amsterdam club to the semi finals of the Champions League in the 2018/19 season.
De Jong arrived at Camp Nou in the summer of 2019 and he made his debut against Athletic Club in San Mamés that August.
In his second season at Barça, De Jong became a vital cog in Ronald Koeman's team ending the campaign with seven goals and seven assists.
In his fourth season as a blaugrana, in 2022/23, De Jong played 43 times and claimed the league title for the first time in his Barça career.
An important part of the Netherlands national side, Frenkie de Jong was part of the team that was runner up in the UEFA Nations League in 2019. The midfielder also played in Euro 2020 and the World Cup in 2022 when the Dutch went out to eventual winners Argentina on penalties in the quarter finals.
