A low post and mid distance specialist. Excellent feet movement makes him great at offensive rebounds. An outstanding creator of inside play.

Guillermo Gustavo "Willy" Hernangómez Geuer (Madrid, 27 May 1994), son of basketball players, first played at Club Baloncesto Las Rozas, where he stood out from an early age due to his stature and how his movement improved so quickly. That was enough to grab Real Madrid's attention, where he joined the youth system.

After going through different youth levels, Willy's professional debut came in the 2012/13 season, when he played six games in the ACB and three in the EuroLeague, surprising with his maturity and dominance of his zone.

Aiming for the player to get more minutes and gain confidence, Real Madrid decided to loan the center to CB Sevilla, where he stayed for two seasons and played alongside Barça player Thomas Satoransky. He established himself as a player while in Seville, standing out from the off, with notable performances like a game against Barça, finishing with 29 points, 13 rebounds and a 43 Performance Index Rating, the youngest player to achieve that score.

After his great seasons in Seville, Willy returned to Real Madrid, where he won the ACB and the Copa del Rey. At the end of the season, the player decided to try out for the NBA, when he was drafted in position 35 by the Philadelphia 76ers, who loaned him to the New York Knicks.

During his first season in the United States of America, Willy averaged 8.2 points and 7 rebounds, which helped him figure as one of the five best rookies in the NBA.

On 7 February 2018, he was traded to the Charlotte Hornets for Johnny O'Bryant and two future draft second round picks. After months with few minutes and not much involvement, Willy gradually started to play more and ended the season with 7.3 points per game.

After spending almost three years in Charlotte, Willy signed for New Orleans Pelicans, where he performed well, like the 29 point and 10 rebound game against the Philadelphia 76ers, but he still wasn't involved as much as he would have liked.

After seven seasons in the NBA, Willy became a Barça player on 13 July 2023.

Willy Hernangomez was part of the Spanish side that won the 2019 World Cup in China. He also won the gold at the 2022 EuroBasket after Spain beat France in the final, being named MVP of the tournament and chosen in the All Star 5.
