This past Wednesday, FC Barcelona summer signing Malcom made a stellar debut appearance at the Camp Nou. The Brazilian scored the opening goal of the Joan Gamper Trophy Game, and was a constant threat to the Boca Juniors defence during his time on the pitch.
Malcom follows in the footsteps of several other players who have scored on their first appearance in the traditional preseason game.
In 1997, Sonny Andersson found the net against Sampdoria, and Dehú did likewise against Sporting CP two years later. In the following edition, Gerard López was on target against PSV Eindhoven, whilst in 2001 the duo of Javier Saviola and Philippe Christanval marked their first Gamper with respective strikes against Parma.
New arrival Ludovic Giuly helped Barça to a win over AC Milan in 2004, a feat replicated by David Villa in 2010. Between those two goals, Yaya Touré opened his account in 2007 against Internazionale.
Cesc Fabregas (2011) and the pair of Munir and Sandro (2014) complete the list of recent Gamper debutant scorers. Malcom is in ilustrious company, and you can enjoy the best of these goals in our video.
