Barça’s Champions League round of 16 opponents Paris St Germain made light work of SC Bastia on Saturday evening to progress into the next round of the Coupe de France. The Parisians led 2-0 at the break and the floodgates opened in the second half as they marched to a 7-0 victory, with all seven of the goals coming from different players.
Madrid keep going
In LaLiga, following on from their draw at Villarreal, Barça are five points adrift of leaders Real Madrid, who also have a game in hand, after Zinedine Zidane’s side cruised to 5-0 victory on Saturday against a Granada that didn’t have a shot on goal until the final minute. Strikes from Isco (2), Cristiano and Benzema meant the all-whites were already four up on the half hour and Casemiro added a fifth after the break.
The win was the 39th in a row in all competitions for Real Madrid, equalling the record set by FC Barcelona under Luis Enrique last season.
Sevilla are second in the table after an impressive 4-0 win at Real Sociedad. Ben Yedder was the man of the moment with a hat-trick while Sarabia claimed the other.
Atlético Madrid have moved ahead of Barça’s Sunday night opponents Villarreal to go fourth after winning 2-0 at Eibar.
This week's opponents
Barça’s cup opponents Athletic Club drew 0-0 in a largely uneventful Sunday lunchtime Liga derby at home to fellow Basque outfit Alavés, while the side Barcelona host in LaLiga on Sunday 14 at 4.15pm CET, Las Palmas, beat Sporting Gijón 1-0 thanks to a goal from Nabil El Zhar after 55 minutes.
