By the numbers: A statistical look at the 3-0 defeat of Sevilla

Andalusian woe: Sevilla’s miserable record against FCB continues. That’s just one win for them in the last nineteen official meetings and they have not won a league fixture at the Camp Nou since 2002. Considering what a strong outfit the triple Europa League champions have become in recent seasons, that’s a staggering record for the Catalans.

Luis Suárez the deadlock breaker: He did it again! The Uruguayan's sublime overhead kick makes him the number one player in LaLiga for opening the scoring, something he’s done in the last five competitive games for Barça (versus PSG, Deportivo, Valencia, Granada and now Sevilla)

Lionel Flair: Leo Messi returned from suspension to score twice in just eight minutes and continue his extraordinary goalscoring record against Sevilla. With 29 goals conceded in 30 meetings, the Andalusians are now his number one victim – and he’s scored at least once in all of the last eight encounters (for a total of 12).

Top skipper: Luis Enrique hinted before the game that Andrés Iniesta is hitting peak form at the crucial time, and the stats are showing him to be right. The midfielder led the recovery count with twelve, his best tally of the season so far, and was also top for interventions (106) and completed passes (82).

Eight and counting: The Barça boss has put together his longest winning streak in Liga games at the Camp Nou. The eight-match spree started with the 4-1 derby victory against Espanyol and has seen his team score 32 goals and concede just five. Only Leganés have not lost by at least a two-goal margin, while Las Palmas, Sporting and Celta were all beaten by a margin of five.

French talisman: The incredible run of Barça always winning in LaLiga when Samuel Umtiti plays has continued. That’s 18 games and a full set of 54 points with the Frenchman in the side. Amazingly, in all three of the games Barça have drawn this season, as well as the six draws, Umtiti played no part! 

Rising champ: Sergio Busquets made his 422nd official appearance last night and that means he slips above Dream Team hero and current Adelaide United manager Guillermo Amor to take eighth place in the all-time list.

Weekend off: Both Gerard Piqué and Ivan Rakitic were booked during the game and will be have to sit out this weekend’s trip to Malaga due to yellow card accumulation. The duo will, however, both be back for the league fixture against Real Sociedad.

Welcome home: Carles Aleñá appeared in his third official game for the first team, but Wednesday was a particularly special occasion. It was his first appearance in front of the Camp Nou crowd!
