The 1-0 win at Athletic Bilbao was special for many reasons, and one of those is the fact that it was Luis Enrique’s 100th victory as FC Barcelona manager.
Since taking his seat on the Barça bench in the summer of 2014, the Asturian has reached his century in a remarkably short time – just 126 official matches. Other than the 100 wins, the remaining games of the Luis Enrique era have ended in 13 draws and just 13 defeats.
He got 50 wins in his first season, and another 46 in his second, meaning that this term he only needed four more to complete his first ton. And he did it the fast way, with back-to-back triumphs against Sevilla to secure the Spanish Super Cup followed by a 6-2 rout of Betis on the first day of La Liga. Ivan Rakitic’s goal at San Mamés ensured another three points – and win number one hundred for the Barcelona boss!
