2017/18 Champions League Final to be played in Kiev
The NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium, which is home to Dynamo Kyiv, will host the final of Europe’s elite competition next season
The final of the 2017/18 Champions League final will be played at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium, following the UEFA Executive Committee’s decision during their meeting in Athens.
The match will take place on 26 May 2018 and it will be the first time that Ukraine hosts a Champions League final. The stadium, however, has hosted other big sporting events, such as the 1980 Olympic Games and the 2012 European Championships.
Four players from the current Barça squad were part of the Spanish side that lifted the trophy in 2012: Pique, Sergio Busquets, Iniesta and Jordi Alba, while Xavi Hernández, Cesc Fàbregas and Pedro were also Barça players at the time.
FC Barcelona have good memories of the stadium. Home to Dynamo Kyiv, Barça played there in the 2009/10 season in the group stages. It was a hard fought 2-1 win for the Catalans, in which Xavi scored before Leo Messi’s late free-kick earned the winner.
