“I promise hard work, humility and sacrifice, all to help the team” says André Gomes after spending his first few hours as a Barça player. Having just celebrated his 23rd birthday, Gomes feels he still has a lot to learn but also has plenty to offer his new club. And the Portuguese international is coming to Barça with a very important item among his luggage – a Euro 2016 winner’s medal.
In an exclusive interview with the club media, André Gomes has discussed a number of professional and personal matters, from what he believes he can do for Luis Enrique to the importance of his family and his childhood heroes.
He explains that signing for FC Barcelona was a personal decision, but his father also had a say in the move. “I tried to keep him out of things, because I didn’t want him to get anxious” he says. “But he has his feelings about this club.”
He also thanks his parents for being so supportive of him throughout his progression. “They gave me everything when I had nothing” he comments.
