A pair routs in the Copa América quarterfinals on Saturday night ensured a Blaugrana presence in this week's semifinal matches.
Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano played all 90 minutes as Argentina breezed past Venezuela, 4–1, in Foxborough.
Messi, who scored Argentina's third goal of the evening in the 60th minute and also had a pair of assists, was named man of the match. Mascherano completed 67 of 70 passes (96%) and had three steals.
The win sets Argentina up for an intriguing semifinal matchup against tournament hosts The United States. That game will be played on Tuesday night in Houston, Texas. Kickoff is set for 9.00pm ET.
On the other side of the bracket, Chile captain Claudio Bravo played all 90 minutes for his national side in a 7–0 drubbing of Mexico. Bravo was barely tested, making one save while, surprisingly, securing his first clean sheet in this year's competition.
Chile face Colombia in the other semifinal on Wednesday in Chicago.
