The Barça B team are back in Division 2A and it looks like they have never been away. Following two seasons in Division 2B they made a winning return against Valladolid at the José Zorrilla stadium thanks to goals from ‘Choco’ Lozano and Marc Cardona.
There was little to choose from between the sides at the start of the match with both teams battling for control and no real chances being created. However, after seventeen minutes Gerard’s side had their first opening when Lozano won the ball and passed to Vitinho who failed to convert in front of an open goal.
The Brazilian then struck a free-kick which went inches wide in the 26th minute. Barely a minute later, Barça B scored the opener. Tarín attacked down the right and fed Lozano who provided the finish. The goal gave the blaugranas even more competence and they began to control the game even more.
Eleven minutes later the second arrived with Lozano involved once again. He controlled the ball beautifully, went past a defender and passed to Marc Cardona who added the final touch.
The second half started frenetically with Valladolid looking to respond to going 2-0 down at home. The home side got one back from a Nacho cross to Ibán Salvador who made it 2-1 in the 52nd minute. Valladolid continued to threaten an equaliser but Varo produced some top-quality saves from two Michel shots.
Slowly, the game became more niggly and Valladolid were shown a flurry of yellows for some tough challenges. However, Gerard López’s players stayed calm and managed to hold onto their lead to secure the first three points of the season and give them a perfect start to life back in Division 2A.
