A win was the aim in the final match of 2024 and the blaugrana rolley hockey team achieved just that. Marc Grau, Pablo Alvárez (2) and Xavi Barroso helped David Cáceres' side to another three points to go into the winter break still at the top of the OK Liga table.
Even start
Both teams began brightly and the first goal came in the 20th minute through a powerful long shot by Marc Grau. The game was very even though, with both sides having chances and the goalkeepers pulling out the stops. No further goals in the half saw Barça still have their slight lead at the break.
Home side react
The home supporters roared on their side after the restart and it bore fruit, as Lluc Vila managed to finish a high chance after 36 minutes to tie up the match.
Despite the home side continuing to push, Barça turned things around soon after despite the best efforts of Arnau Martínez in the Caldes goal. He resisted until the 43rd minute, but then Pablo Álvarez recovered a ball to fire a long accurate shot into the net and the blaugranes were back in the lead.
Blaugranes run out winners
There was still little to choose between the sides, but the blaugranes had just that bit more and two minutes after his first goal, Pablo Alvárez finished a rebound after a Eloi Cervera attempt to extend Barça's lead (min 44).
Biel Pujadas cut into the lead with four minutes to go with a great piece of individual skill (min 46), prompting Caldes to attack with five in search of the draw. Barça defended well and with just 32 seconds to go, Xavi Barroso recovered the ball, also showing superb skill to score into an empty net, final score 2-4.
This win means David Cáceres end the year as OK Liga winter champions. Next up, a home match against current bottom side Digit Tecnic CPV Capital del Vi (3 January, 9.00pm CET).
