FC Barcelona’s medical services have confirmed that Rafinha has torn his left anterior cruciate ligament. The midfielder, who felt discomfort during the second half of Saturday night’s 1-1 draw at Atlético Madrid, will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Rafinha played in four La Liga matches this season, two in the Champions League, and in the Spanish Super Cup. He was a starter in two of Barça’s biggest games this season—both wins—against Inter Milan and Real Madrid, which was a historic, 5-1 blowout.
In his other knee, he previously suffered a torn ACL back in September of 2015 and a meniscus injury in the spring of 2017.
