Ante Tomic has been appointed as Barça Lassa basketball team captain for the 2018/19 season. Following the retirement of previous encumbent Juan Carlos Navarro, who had held the role since 2011, the Croatian will lead the team in the coming campaign. He will be joined by second captain Pierre Oriola, who joined the club in 2017.
“The team will have continuity in the captain's role, as both players had responsibilities last season," said coach Svetislav Pesic after the decision was made.
Tomic joined Barça Lassa in 2012 and has played a total of six seasons at the Palau Blaugrana. He is the foreign player with the most appearances for the club, and has won the Liga ACB once, the Copa del Rey twice, the Endesa Super Cup and six Catalan league titles.
Tomic
“This is an honour. I'm very proud. This is going to be my seventh season at Barça and I'm the oldest player here. It's a very big responsibility, above all with Navarro's departure, and it's difficult. Being Barça's captain is incredible and I'm very happy."
Oriola
“This is a big challenge. I've always wanted to be here, and to be second captain behind Tomic says a lot. I think that the club respect me, and I will try to assist the team to achieve great successes. I will also try to help the team to continue being a big family.
“I hope that I can help the new players to understand what Barça are all about, what it means to wear this shirt, and that we have to represent the club to the fullest, right to the end."
