FC Barcelona Women earned a precious 2-1 win over the reigining league champions Athletic Club, with goals from debutant Vicky Losada and usual suspect Jennifer Hermoso.
Andressa Alves’ early effort on goal set the pace for an intense start, and it looked like a goal was just around the corner. And minutes later, it arrived thanks to debutant Losada whose fine individual effort gave the hosts the opener (1-0).
The joy was short lived however, as Alves was adjudged to have blocked a free-kick with her arm, leading the referee to point to the spot. Erika stepped up and converted for 1-1 on 25 minutes.
Barça pressed and pressed, with their persistence finally paying off. Ange Koko, on as a second half substitute, earned a penalty for her side, which Jennifer duly tucked home to give the blaugrana a big three points against a title rival.
Xavi Llorenç’s side remain top of the table, ending a great week which also saw them reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
