Speaking on Monday ahead of Barça’s final Champions League group stage fixture, at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach, defender Sergi Roberto commented that “the main aim was to make sure we finish top of one of the most difficult groups in this year’s edition. And we wanted to go into the last game at the Camp Nou with the job done".
That is exactly the situation after the 2-0 defeat of Celtic in the penultimate round of matches, but the team did take a knock at the weekend when a late equaliser denied them victory against Real Madrid in El Clásico.
“The team are in a fine mood” said the player. “We played well and deserved to win, and it was such a pity to concede in the final minute. Now it’s important for us to get a win against Borussia Monchengladbach to regain confidence for the league and especially what will be a difficult match in Pamplona on Saturday. Hopefully we can change things after a run of three consecutive draws.”
Asked about his own performances, Sergi Roberto commented that “I have been playing at right back for two years. I wanted to play for Barça and I’m getting the chance as a full-back and trying to enjoy my time with the team as much as possible.”
“There are always things to improve, things are never perfect, but I’m very pleased with the way I am playing.”
