Gemma Font has come up through the various age categories at the Club to finally achieve her goal; a place in the Barça Women first team squad. The goalkeeper is looking forward to the challenges ahead in the 2018/19 season. “Being part of the first team squad at Barça Women is a dream I have had since I was little and now it has come true,” she explained. “It’s an experience that a lot of people would like to have and I am aware that few people make it this far,” continued the young keeper.
Font finds herself one of several new faces in Fran Sánchez’s squad which is currently on tour with the men’s first team in the USA. During the interview with the Club’s official media in the US, she revealed one of the traits that often marks out players in her position. “Whenever I go out onto the field, or we score a goal, I touch the two posts and the crossbar,” she revealed, superstitions being common amongst goalkeepers around the world.
Finally, Font touched upon her footballing heroes, fellow blaugranes Víctor Valdés and Laura Ràfols and also on her desire to one day study to be a primary school teacher.
