FC Barcelona side are setting new landmarks in the Copa del Rey every season. After overcoming Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals this season, the team have reached the final of the competition for the fourth season in a row. Luis Enrique has managed to take his team all the way in each of this three campaigns in charge – something that only Fernando Daucik had previously managed at Barça between 1951 and 1953. The Slovakian coach, with the help of a team led by Kubala, won all three of those Copa del Rey finals and now 64 years later Luis Enrique has the chance to equal that feat with a team led by the incomparable Leo Messi.
Barça have reached the domestic cup final in seven of the last nine seasons and are currently the team who have won the competition on most occasions, 28 to be precise. In modern times the only other decade to come close was between 1981 and 1990 when the blaugranes reached six finals, winning four of them.
Pep Guardiola, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino and Luis Enrique have all contributed to Barça’s domination of the Copa del Rey in recent years. Guardiola reached the final on three occasions, winning two in his four years in charge at the Club. Tata Martino reached the final in his only campaign as Barça coach and now Luis Enrique, with two victories in the competition in his two previous seasons as coach, has picked up the baton for Barça in the Copa del Rey.
