FC Barcelona’s U19s suffered elimination at the semi-final stage of the UEFA Youth League at the hands of RB Salzburg on Friday, losing 2-1.
After a bright start, it was Barça who took the lead on 19 minutes. From the right-hand side, Jordi Mboula gluided between two defenders, beat another man inside the box and struck into the far corner beyond Zynel to make it 1-0.
Abel Ruiz then went close to doubling the Catalans’ lead shortly before Meister almost levelled the game for the Austrians with a shot that went just wide.
Salzburg burst out of the traps in the second period, with Wolf striking inches wide of Puig’s post. The same player, however, would make no mistake when another chance was presented to him on 63 minutes and the match was all square.
The Austrian side began piling on the pressure and, in the end, it would lead to them grabbing the winning goal with just seven minutes to play. Wolf’s cross found Patson Daka who struck beyond Puig to score the decisive goal.
