Sunday’s training session at the Ciutat Esportiva was witnessed by a very special guest, legendary former Brazilian international and now coach Zico. The midfielder was the star of la canarinha in the late 1970s and 1980s, scoring 66 goals for the national side, a total that leaves him only behind fellow Brazilian superstars Ronaldo and Pelé on the list of all time scorers.
After observing Barça in training, Zico spoke to Barça TV and gave his opinion on the blaugranes chances of a second historic comeback in their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Juventus. “Given the quality of the players that Barça have, one can believe in the comeback again. They have four of the best players in the world in Messi, Neymar Jr, Suárez and Iniesta and if they have a good day then Barça could get a good result,” said the Brazilian.
“Juventus are a different team to PSG due to their history. They are a very good side and are used to big games,” added Zico who experienced Italian football in his playing days with Udinese.
Commenting on countryman Neymar’s current form, he said: “What he does with Barça, he does with Brazil as well; he is a key member of the national side and we are very happy for that. We hope he becomes the best player in the world.”
Finally, the Flamengo legend looked forward to the other big game on the horizon for the blaugranes, the league clash against Real Madrid. “A Clásico always demands a lot of players and we have seen that either of the two sides can win regardless of the situation surrounding the game. It will depend a lot on what happens to the teams in the week in the Champions League,” concluded Zico.
