FC Barcelona began the 2017/18 season with a 2-0 victory over Betis thanks to an own goal from Tosca and another strike from Sergi Roberto. The versatile man from Reus was one of the stand out performers in the game in which he scored his first ever league goal for the Club. However, if there was one player who was a constant threat to the Andalusian defence, it was none other than Leo Messi.
The Argentine was involved in the first goal, setting up Deulofeu to cross for Betis defender Tosca to turn the ball past his own goalkeeper. Despite not scoring, Messi had no less than 10 shots, four of which were just millimetres wide and three of which struck the woodwork. Leo Messi, in spite of another virtuoso performance, will have to wait for his first league goal of the 2017/18 season with Alavés next in his sights on Saturday at 6.15pm CET in Mendizorrotza.
