Murcia were well beaten by FC Barcelona in the second leg of their Copa del Rey tie (5-0). It was a match that will be remembered by Oriol Busquets and David Costas as both Barça B players debuted with the first team, playing their first minutes under Ernesto Valverde.
Oriol Busquets started and played a total of 62 minutes, until he was replaced by Sergi Roberto. The midfielder, who arrived at Barça in 2007 at the age of eight, came through all of the lower categories of the club until making debut at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night, at just 18. He said after the game: “I tried to get my nerves under control, remembering it's a game of football and I have to play as I know. I helped the team and we played a great match, achieving a good result. I must thank my team mates who helped me so much both on and off the pitch.“
In addition, the young midfielder added: "My great dream was to play here, since I first came to Barça, and I will do everything possible to succeed here. I’ve been working for this for many years, it’s been a very nice experience, the dream debut for every child who starts playing football from a very young age."
David Costas replaced Gerard Piqué in the centre of defence after 57 minutes. Costas, 22, arrived at Barça B last August on loan from Celta Vigo, a team he joined as a youth player and with whom he debuted in the First Division at just 18 years of age in 2013. He explained after the win over Murcia: "Being able to debut with this Club at the Camp Nou and with the best players in the world is unique. I'm very happy. Valverde trusts me and it’s a privilege to experience this with them. It's a very big prize.”
