FC Barcelona are mathematically through to the last 16 of the 2017/18 Champions League for the fourteenth season in a row thanks to a goalless draw against Juventus.
With the last game of the group stage still to come, Ernesto Valverde’s team claim a place in the last 16, something they have achieved every season since 2004/05 when the run began under coach Frank Rijkaard. Since that campaign, Barça have always been present in the draw for the first knock out round of the Champions League and since the 2007/08 season, they have done so as group winners.
The result assures Barça of top spot in Group D and allows them to avoid teams such as Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Besiktas in the next round of the competitions as they also have gone through as group winners although possible rivals from the runners up spots will not be confirmed until the group stage is complete. The blaugranes still have one game of in Group D to come, at home to Sporting Clube de Portugal on 11 December.
