Although this weekend’s Eibar v Barça league match — which kicks off at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium on Saturday at 4.15pm CET — will feature two teams separated by six places and 34 points in the standings, there is one glaring similarity between the two: their excellent form in La Liga.
Eibar come into the match having dropped just one of their last 12 matches in La Liga — a 1–0 home defeat to second-place Atlético Madrid on January 13. Here’s a look at their last 12 league games:
Week 12 — Nov. 20 — W — Eibar 5–0 Betis
Week 13 — Nov. 25 — W — Alavés 1–2 Eibar
Week 14 — Dec. 03 — W — Eibar 3–1 Espanyol
Week 15 — Dec. 09 — D — Getafe 0–0 Eibar
Week 16 — Dec. 16 — W — Eibar 2–1 Valencia
Week 17 — Dec. 21 — W — Eibar 4–1 Girona
Week 18 — Jan. 06 — W — Las Palmas 1–2 Eibar
Week 19 — Jan. 13 — L — Eibar 0–1 Atlético Madrid
Week 20 — Jan. 22 — D — Eibar 1–1 Málaga
Week 21 — Jan. 26 — D — Athletic Club 1–1 Eibar
Week 22 — Feb. 03 — W — Eibar 5–1 Sevilla
Week 23 — Feb. 10 — W — Leganés 0–1 Eibar
Interestingly, over the above stretch of games, Eibar have accumulated the third most points in La Liga, with 27. Atlético have bagged 29 points over the same stretch, while Barça have racked up 28.
Barça, of course, are looking to tie a club-record 31-game unbeaten streak in La Liga, which was set by Pep Guardiola’s team in the 2010/11 season. The current streak dates back to last season, when the final seven games were all Barça victories. Barça, of course, are unbeaten through the first 23 league games this season, which is already a club record at the start of a season.
