Playing at Camp Nou for the first time is always a moment that generates a certain expectation amongst players and clubs alike. This Saturday sees Barça’s Catalan neighbours Girona visit the famous stadium for the first time in official competition when they face Ernesto Valverde’s team in week 25 of La Liga.
Regardless of the result at the weekend, the visitors can be certain of taking away something from the game against Barça, just as other clubs have in recent years following their first trip to Camp Nou. Before kick off, FC Barcelona will present their opponents with a commemorative pennant as they have done to all newcomers to the great stadium.
The tradition is more than 20 years old not and does not only cover clubs coming to Camp Nou for the first time in domestic competition. Every team that comes to face Barça at home in the Champions League and opponents in the final of various competitions also receive a special pennant to celebrate the occasion.
The souvenirs are hand-made still, recreating the style of that was used for the official supporters’ clubs. See how these collectable items are made in our video above.
