All seven previous cup finals against Real Madrid

All seven previous cup finals against Real Madrid

FC Barcelona have won three but lost four, including the most recent finals in 2011 and 2014

The Copa del Rey Final at La Cartuja, Seville on April 26 will be the eighth time that Barça and Real Madrid have met in the showpiece event. So here's a look back at what happened in the seven previous Clásico finals.

1936: Real Madrid win the first

Mestalla, Valencia was the venue in 1936, and Madrid went 2-0 up early in the first half. But on the half-hour, Escolà pulled one back for the Catalans. However, a second goal was not forthcoming and Madrid collected the trophy.

1968: Win at the Bernabéu

It would be 32 years before the teams met again in the final, and in 1968, Madrid had the clear advantage of the game being played at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. But Barça wouldn't let that stop them. After just six minutes, Zunzunegi scored what would turn out to be the only goal of the match, and Barça were champions.

1974: Madrid cruise it

This final was played at Atlético's old Vicente Calderón stadium. This was a night to forget. It just wasn't Barça's day and they were already 3-0 down before Pirri put the final nail in their coffin. 4-0. A miserable night for Culers.

1983: Marcos Alonso the hero

In 1983, Zaragoza was the host city for perhaps the tightest of all finals until now. Barça took the lead just before the break, but Madrid replied straight after, and it looked like we heading for extra time before a spectacular diving header from Marcos Alonso secured the trophy for Barça.

1990: Last blaugrana win

We were back at Mestalla for this one, although it was known as the Luis Casanova at the time. Zubizarreta, Koeman, Amor and Salinas were among the heroes as Barça won 2-0 to lead the series by 3 wins to 2.

2011: Cristiano Ronaldo's night

In 2011, Mestalla was the venue for a third time, this time for a showdown between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. A tight game ended scoreless, but a Cristiano Ronaldo header in the 103rd minute broke blaugrana hearts.

2014: Loss in Valencia

Three years later, Mestalla was again the venue and Madrid were champions again. Angel Di María got the opener and then Gareth Bale made it 2-0 following his famous run down the wing. Marc Bartra's goal was to no avail, and Barça have had to wait 11 years to avenge that defeat as we look foward to the eighth final between the most famous rivals in world football.
