Barça Legends 1-1 (3-4) Real Madrid Leyendas: Shoot out defeat

Barça Legends were unable to return from Puerto Rico with a victory after defeat in the veterans' Clásico against Real Madrid Leyendas. After a 1-1 draw in normal time, Albert Ferrer's side suffered a 4-3 reverse in the penalty shoot out in the Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel de Bayamón in front of 20,791. During the 90 minutes Gaizka Mendieta put Barça ahead only for Agustín García to equalise in the second half. 

Good start 

The Barça Legends got off to the best possible start when Gaizka Mendieta put them ahead after just three minutes. The midfielder conjured up a brilliant effort from outside the area to beat goalkeeper Iker Casillas. In the first half Ludovic Giuly was a constant threat, bringing a good save from Casillas. Rivaldo and Trashorras came up with the quality in midfield but the blaugranes were unable to add to their advantage before half time. 

Change of mood 

In the second half Real Madrid started to find their feet in the encounter. Angoy, in goal for Barça after coming on at half time to replace Baia, was called into action on several occasion making good saves to deny Balbao and then Antonio Moral. For the blaugranes Rivaldo came close with a free kick that was deflected off the wall. 

Real Madrid finally found the equaliser in the 70th minute. Agustín García headed home a free kick to make it 1-1 and set up an exciting finale. Mendieta had a goal disallowed for offside and Madrid keeper Contreras batted away Trashorras' shot before the final whistle took the game into a penalty shoot out. 

Disappointment from the spot

Barça went first in the shoot out and both side scored their first three penalties. However, the excellent Giuly missed the fourth and when captain Sergi Barjuán also missed the fifth then victory went to Real Madrid 4-3 on penalties.
