After qualifying for the last eight with their 4-1 aggregate win over Benfica, the blaugranes have now reached the quarter finals on 26 occasions in their history.
In 2006 Barça knocked out Benfica in the last eight before going on to win the competition in Paris against Arsenal. In 2009 it was Bayern Munich who were beaten with the blaugranes on their way to claiming the trophy, as they did in 2011 knockout out Shakhtar Donetsk and in 2015 against Paris Saint-Germain. When they first won the trophy in 1992, there were no quarter-finals as they progressed to the final via a second group stage.
13 seasons in a row
Between 2007 and 2020 Barça reached the last eight of the Champions League 13 times in a row. Coach Pep Guardiola made to the quarter-finals in each of his four seasons in charge between 2008 and 2012, winning the trophy twice.
A positive record
How have Barça done in the quarter-finals? In 1991/92 and 1993/94 the blaugranes reached the latter stages of the competitions via a group stage, and on 15 other occasions they have made it through to the semi-finals. They have been knocked out of the competition in the last eight on eight occasions, five of which have come in the last 10 seasons.
Nevertheless, the stats are in Barça's favour as they look for a place in the semis-finals following a tie against either Borussia Dortmund or Lille.
