FC Barcelona v Benfica: Did you know?

A numerical look ahead to Tuesday's Champions League second leg

FC Barcelona may have won the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final in fantastic fashion, 1-0 at the Stadium of Light, but the job is by no means done. There is still the second leg to play at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Tuesday at 6.45pm CET, and here's a statistical glance at one of the most important games of the season.

Good record against Benfica

Barça have five wins and five draws in their last ten games against The Eagles in Europe, while all-time in games played at their own stadium they have never been defeated. In fact, Barça have not lost at home to ANY team from Portugal for 52 years. The last time was a 1-0 loss to Porto in the 1972/73 UEFA Cup.

Flying in Europe

After losing to Monaco on the opening day, Barça have gone for eight games in this year's edition without defeat. In fact, other than a the draw with Atalanta on the final day of the League Phase, they have won every game they've played. It's the longest unbeaten run of any team in the competition this season, and equals Barça's eight-match spree in 2018/19, when they eventually lost to Liverpool in the semi-finals.

Raphinha making a difference

Raphinha scored the winner in Lisbon, and has now scored 12 and given eight assists in 21 Champions League games for the club, a goal involvement rate of 20. That's one goal or assist every 76 minutes from the Brazilian, the best record for any of his countrymen who have played 10 or more games in the competition.

Pavlidis the threat

Vangelis Pavlidis has found the net seven times in this year's competition, the highest tally for a Benfica player since 1964-65. The Greek is two goals away from the club record shared by Eusébio amd José Torres, with nine each.

Best converters

Last week's game only produced one goal, in stark contrast to the meeting in the League Phase in which no fewer than nine goals were scored. Well, we are talking about the two most efficient chance converters in the competition. 61.1% of Benfica's shots on target have found the net, with Barça narrowly behind them on 60.4%.
