FC Barcelona celebrates International Women’s Day with talk on female empowerment

Inspiring activity for club employees on combating aesthetic pressure

International Women's Day, celebrated annually on March 8, is an opportunity to promote women’s rights and gender equality worldwide. This day commemorates past struggles by women to improve their working, social, and political conditions while also providing a moment to reflect on the progress made and the challenges still to be overcome.

In relation to the day, on this Friday a conference titled "Women and Power: Aesthetic Pressure, Another Way to Weaken Women's Power" was held in the Auditori 1899 on the grounds of Spotify Camp Nou. The event was attended by Elena Fort, institutional vice-president of FC Barcelona, and featured as its main speaker Marta Pontnou, an image consultant, writer, feminist activist, and media contributor.

The conference was organised by the club’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Department as part of its Equality Plan, which aims to promote gender equality within the club’s corporate culture. Designed for the club’s female employees, the event provided practical tools to help overcome and combat aesthetic pressure, a form of psychological pressure that affects all women, regardless of their profession. This type of pressure not only impacts self-esteem but can also negatively influence work performance and limit women’s potential.

Through this initiative, FC Barcelona is reaffirming its commitment to gender equality and employee well-being, providing spaces for reflection and learning to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment.

Committed to equality

FC Barcelona approved its first Equality Plan in 2013, seven years before gender equality legislation came into effect, making the club a pioneer in developing and implementing such policies. Today, with the launch of its third Plan, FC Barcelona continues to lead the way in terms of gender equality and non-discrimination.
