Pedri is not only one of the best football players in the world. He is also a role model for boys and girls who play football, and the members of the Barça Genuine Foundation team are really big fans of the Canary Islander.
Surprise at training
So when the player made a surprise appearance at the team’s training session on Thursday, they all wanted to hug him, greet him, and show what a huge boost for their morale it was to see him there.
Pedri enjoyed the moment, smiling throughout and actively took part in the training session, joining in with the 'rondos', and also spent a few minutes chatting with the squad before taking a group photo to mark his new role as ambassador for the Barça Genuine Foundation. It was an unforgettable experience for everyone — the Genuine team and Pedri alike.
Sincere thanks
Pol, Marc, and Manel spoke during the team huddle, thanking Pedri for his willingness to be part of the project and making it clear that "he is a role model for everyone, and it is an honour to have him as part of the big Genuine family." They also took the opportunity to wish him "good luck and plenty of titles" as senior team goes into the final stages of the season. Sasha also spoke to the club media, acknowledging that it had been a huge surprise for everyone and “a unique moment.”
Pedri naturally responded in kind. "They have shown me that they are incredibly grateful people" he said. "I know they are doing great, and I encouraged them to keep working hard to achieve all their goals ... It’s a pleasure to contribute in any way we can to make them a bit happier and to do our part for a project that gives meaning to More than a Club."
Genuine ambassadors
Pedri takes over from Ronald Araujo as the new ambassador for the Genuine team, alongside Cata Coll from Barça Femeni, who will also be meeting the team soon. Previous ambassadors have included Sergi Roberto, Piqué, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, and Mapi León.
The team is currently second in LaLiga Genuine, just one point behind leaders Espanyol, with two phases left to play. Former roller hockey player Sergi Panadero has taken charge the project this year, supported by the heads of the club’s amateur sections, Ramon Cabañas and Gaby Cairo, who were also present at Thursday's event with Pedri.
