FC Barcelona to host a walk to celebrate its 125th anniversary and the thousand years of Montserrat Abbey, open to the whole blaugrana family

FC Barcelona is pleased to announce the organization of the "Marcha Culer" (Barça Walk) with Montserrat Abbey as its final destination, set to take place on Saturday, March 22. This event is part of the celebrations of the club's 125th anniversary and the millennium of the Benedictine monastery.

It is open to FC Barcelona members, supporters' club members, and fans, and it will have two route options: a long route of 47 kilometers, starting from the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, and a shorter route of 6.5 kilometers, departing from the Rambla de Collbató.

This non-competitive walk will follow the guidelines of the Federació d’Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC), with which FC Barcelona has signed a collaboration agreement. The organization of the Marcha Culer has been made possible thanks to the efforts of volunteers from FEEC-affiliated groups and the expertise of their advisors.

Registration and route

FC Barcelona fans wishing to participate in the Marcha Culer can register online through the members' section of the club website. Registration opens on February 5 for club members and supporters’ club members, and on February 7 for the general public.

The long route will depart from the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper at midnight on March 22, passing through the municipalities of Sant Joan Despí, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Molins de Rei, Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Pallejà, El Papiol, Castellbisbal, Sant Andreu de la Barca, Martorell, Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Esparreguera, and Collbató. The short route will start from Collbató at 9:00am the following morning.

There will be seven refreshment points along the way, including those at the two starting locations, situated in Molins de Rei, Martorell, Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Esparreguera, Collbató, and finally in the square of Montserrat Monastery. This has been made possible thanks to the participation and support of the local municipalities and their respective governments. FC Barcelona expresses its gratitude to these municipalities and local hiking groups for their willingness to collaborate and their assistance in organizing the Marcha Culer.

The minimum age for participation in the long walk is 16, while for the short walk, it is 12. Minors must be registered by a parent or guardian. The registration fee for the long walk is €50 for club members, €53 for supporters' club members, and €55 for the general public. For the short walk, the fee is €30 for club members, €33 for supporters' club members, and €35 for the general public. The registration fee includes a bib number and timing chip, the official Marcha Culer shirt, medical assistance and accident insurance, refreshment stations, practical and service information, and recognition upon arrival at Montserrat Monastery.

Shirt and bib collection will take place at the Auditori 1899, located on the Spotify Camp Nou grounds, starting from March 17, between 9am and 6pm. Additionally, the club will provide participants with a return bus service from Monistrol de Montserrat for a flat fee of €10. Departure times will be adjusted according to participants' arrival at the monastery. The ticket for the rack railway (cremallera) from the monastery to Monistrol is not included.

Barça and Montserrat

FC Barcelona and Montserrat Abbey, two institutions deeply rooted in Catalonia’s history, are coming together to celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary and the monastery’s 1,000th anniversary. The historical connection between Barça and Montserrat was further solidified on December 16, 2024, with the signing of a twinning agreement reinforcing their commitment to collaboration.

Longtime fans may recall past supporters’ club gatherings in Montserrat in 1972, 1977, and 1979, as well as the first team’s cycling trips to Montserrat in 1985 and 1992. Additionally, before the renovations of the Spotify Camp Nou, a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Montserrat was located in the players’ tunnel, featuring the image of the Virgin Mary from the stadium’s inauguration in 1957. This chapel will be reinstated in its original location once the stadium renovations are completed as part of the Espai Barça project.
