The first league game of 2025 at the Estadi Lluís Companys was one to remember as Barça put seven goals past Valencia, and produced some amazing statistics in the process.
Five first half goals
Barça scored four goals inside the first 24 minutes (De Jong 3’, Ferran Torres 8’, Raphinha 14’ and Fermín López 24’), something that hadn't happened since 2008, when Barça dished out similar punishment to Almeria at Camp Nou, Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry sharing the goals. The last time Barça scored five goals in a first half was against Getafe in 2015, a game that ended 6-0.
Frenkie is back
Frenkie de Jong scored the opening goal after two minutes and twenty five seconds, assisted by Lamine Yamal. But that was not Yamal's quickest assist, for he needed just two minutes and six seconds to set up Robert Lewandowski to score against Rayo Vallecano in May of last year.
25 passes and a goal
Ferran Torres' goal from an Alejandro Balde assist came at the end of a series of no fewer than 25 passes. No team has scored as many goals preceded by that number of passes this season, the most impressive of all being the one against Betis in December, scored by Robert Lewandowski and with 27 passes in the build-up.
Lethal connection
Lamine Yamal gave the assist for Raphinha's goal, and that should come as no surprise. He has set up 6 of the 43 goals that the Brazilian has scored for the team. Meanwhile, of the total of 20 assists that Lamine has already provided for Barça players, Raphinha has been the beneficiary of the greatest share.
Flick 100
The seven goals scored on Sunday mean that Barça have scored 101 goals in total in the 32 games since Hansi Flick took charge. It's very close to being Barça's highest scoring season ever at this stage of a season. Only in 1942/43 (106 goals), 1958/59 (103) and 2011/12 (102) did the team score more.
Szczesny debut
Wojciech Szczesny started his first league game after already making five appearances in other competitions. And so far so good. With the Pole in goal, Barça have won five out of five.
Top in attack
Barça now have the two of the three highest goalscorers in any of Europe's top five leagues. Lewandowski is top with 29 goals and Raphinha is third with 23. Erling Haaland of Manchester City stands in between with 24.
