On Wednesday 29 January, the Year of the Snake begins in Asian culture. FC Barcelona is taking this opportunity to send warm wishes to their fans in the Asia-Pacific region (and worldwide) during this special season when the club is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
Throughout its history, FC Barcelona has experienced both triumphs and setbacks, always bouncing back with pride after defeat. This 125-year journey has shaped the club into the most beloved multi-sport organisation in the world. In this spirit, the snake symbolises new beginnings, wisdom, and transformation towards a brighter future. According to Asian culture, the Year of the Snake brings luck and strength to face challenges with courage and hope.
Celebratory video
Pau Víctor, Engen, Pedri, Cata Coll, Kounde, Mapi León, Kika Nazareth, Olmo, Alexia, Fermín López, Ewa Pajor and Pau Cubarsí from the men's and women's football teams have featured in a video shared on the club’s social media in which they send their best wishes to all their Asian fans on the occasion of the Year of the Snake. They are joined in this celebratory message by children from the Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units, a supporters' club founded by Catalonia’s Chinese community that traditionally collaborates with this event.
Commemorative actions at weekend matches
The club is arranging festive activities to coincide with the Barça Women's game with Levante UD on February 1, the Barça Men's game against Alavés on February 2 and the Barça Basketball fixture with Baxi Manresa on February 2.
Fans attending the men’s and women’s football matches can enjoy traditional dragon and lion dance performances at the stadium entrances. The players will be wearing special warm-up shirts featuring their names in Chinese on the back and will come onto the field accompanied by Chinese children from the Penya Blaugrana Dracs Units.
As in previous years, the stadium screens will display the lineups in Chinese, and halftime entertainment will include a themed DJ performance and fan cams. At the basketball game, there will be Chinese writing workshop outside the Palau, as well as a percussion performance.
Digital and partner celebrations
In collaboration with students from China Jiliang University, FC Barcelona has created thematic digital assets featuring the symbolic snake, to be shared across its social media platforms. Over 17 partners from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond will be joining forces with the club to create digital promotions and activities, both on and off the field, to mark the occasion.
Barça’s influence in Asia-Pacific
In 2013, FC Barcelona opened its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong, China to strengthen its ties with fans, partners and supporters.
Over the past decade, the club has built a robust fan community in Asia-Pacific, with 15.9 million followers on Chinese social media platforms (including WeChat, Weibo, Douyin, Touitiao, Xiaohongshu, and bilibili) and 529 million followers globally. The club is also active on Naver, one of South Korea’s leading TV channels, and Rakuten TV in Japan through the FAST channel, Top Barça. Additionally, eight supporters’ clubs are active across different Asian cities such as Dhaka, Ha Noi, Hong Kong, Kathmandu, Kozhikode, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo.
