Barça 5-0 Real Madrid: Super Cup champions!

The blaugranes put in another dominant performance to defeat Real Madrid 5-0 and claim the first available trophy of the season

That’s now four-in-a-row and a fifth Spanish Super Cup for the Club’s trophy cabinet! Barça Women have defeated Real Madrid Femenino 5-0 in the second El Clásico of the season at a well-attended Butarque Muncipal stadium in Leganes, the host venue for the tournament.

With President Joan Laporta and Director responsible for women's football Xavier Puig watching on, the blaugranes put on a real show to overcome the Madrid side with goals from Graham Hansen, Pajor (2), Patri, and Alexia. Patri was also named MVP in the final.

Coach Pere Romeo made two changes from the 3-0 semi-final win against Atlético Madrid, Rolfö and Graham Hansen coming in for Brugts and Paralluelo.

Three goals after 30 minutes’ stalemate

The game began with the intensity you would expect from an El Clàsico, and the blaugranes soon settled into their familiar style, with Real Madrid attempting to counter whenever possible, flooding the midfield where FC Barcelona have so much creativity.

This inevitably forced the blaugranes to look wide, and Graham Hansen showed a glimpse of the impact that was to come, her shot being saved by Misa after eight minutes. Pajor put in the rebound, but VAR ruled she was marginally offside.

Graham Hansen was causing real problems for Carmona down the right and it was the right winger who broke the deadlock, her 31st minute shot from inside the area deflecting off the Real Madrid fullback to wrongfoot Misa.

Real Madrid seemed stung by the goal, and a resulting Bruun shot was blocked well by the blaugrana defence. The all-whites push was short-lived, however, as Batlle reached the by-line after a good ball from Graham Hansen, and Pajor scored from between two defenders after 37 minutes.

Still time for another before the break, as in the fourth minute of added time, Pajor scored with a superb glancing header from a Graham Hansen corner to complete her brace.

Patri and Alexia round off the scoring

No changes at halftime from either side and the blaugranes continued to dominate. Graham Hansen continued her fine performance, a left footed shot curling just wide, before having a shot deflected over five minutes later.

The blaugranes were still pressing high up the pitch and further reward came when Patri scored from just outside the area on the right, thundering a shot into the top right corner out of Misa’s reach after 62 minutes.

Both coaches introduced substitutes as the half went on. An Aitana left foot shot tested Misa who palmed her effort wide, before Real Madrid had a goal ruled out for offside after 71 minutes.

Now into the final 10 minutes, Alexia shot wide to the right of the goal after great cross from the right by substitute Jana. The captain was to get her goal, though – her 15th of the season. Mapi Leon crossed in, Pajor was denied her hat-trick as her header hit the post, but there was Alexia to put in the rebound.

El Clásico win confirmed and the first available trophy of the season in the cabinet. Som-hi!
