FC Barcelona shines in Golden Boy 2024

Lamine Yamal and Vicky López win the best young player awards, and Aitana Bonmatí is named best women's player of the year

FC Barcelona were the big winners in today's announcement of the Golden Boy awards presented by Italian sports paper 'Tuttosport'. Lamine Yamal, Vicky López and Aitana Bonmatí will all be collecting prizes at the ceremony in Turin on December 16.

Fourth Golden Boy

The Golden Boy award for the best male footballer under 23 has gone, not unexpectedly, to Lamine Yamal, who thus inherits the crown from Jude Bellingham. The 17-year-old follows on from Leo Messi (2005), Pedri (2021) and Gavi (2022) to become the club's fourth winner of the accolade, which he adds to the Kopa Trophy won just a few weeks ago.

First Golden Girl

Also, for the first time since it was created in 2018, Barça can now at last boast a Golden Girl. 18-year-old Vicky López is this year's winner, following on from Linda Caicedo of Real Madrid, who was honoured 12 months ago.

Another Barça Women player Giulia Dragoni, currently on loan at AS Roma, picked up the award for 'Best Italian Golden Girl'.

Another trophy for Aitana

'Tuttosport' has also revealed the identity of this year's Golden Player Woman 2024. And for the second year in a row, the awardee is Aitana Bonmatí.

Barça have dominated this particular category, winning every single edition to date. Martens was the first (2021), and after her have come Alexia (2022) and Aitana (2023 & 2024).
