Barça Women to visit the United States in the preseason

Two friendlies scheduled against Bay FC and Dallas Trinity FC from the US pro leagues

The FC Barcelona women’s team will be visiting the United States this summer as part of their preseason preparations. It’s a tour that shows what an attraction the team is, even in a country like the United States, one of the benchmark countries when it comes to the women’s game. The trip will see them play two local clubs, Bay FC on August 27, and Dallas Trinity FC on August 30. The former are an expansion team currently playing their first season in the National Women's Soccer League, the top tier league in the country, and the latter is a new side that’s about to compete in the brand-new USL Super League.

With new coach Pere Romeu at the helm, Barça will be flying across the Atlantic on August 25 and their first game is two days later against Bay FC at the 18,000 capacity Paypal Park in San José, California. It will be an especially meaningful fixture because it means meeting up with Asisat Oshoala, who joined the American side in February 2024 after playing 162 games and scoring 117 goals for Barça.

The European champions will then head to Dallas for the second and final match on August 30, against Dallas Trinity at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. The team then fly back home on September 1 to continue their preseason preparations.

Barça Women and the United States

This is the third time that the women’s football team have been to the United States. Summer 2018 saw them go on the very first mixed tour together with the men, staying from July 24 to 29 in Beaverton and Los Angeles. Coached at the time by Fran Sánchez, they played a friendly in Los Angeles against second division SoCal FC, comfortably winning 5-0. But the result was only a small part of the symbolic arrival of the team in the lucrative US market for the very first time.

In August 2021, they were back in the USA, this time on their own, to play in the Women's International Champions Cup in Portland (Oregon). They were narrowly beaten 3-2 in the semi-final against Olympique Lyon and ended up taking third place thanks to a 3-2 defeat of the Houston Dash.
