FC Barcelona is extending Ian Barrufet's contract until June 2027, but the winger will spend next season on loan to German outfit Melsungen, who finished fifth ion the last Bundesliga to book a slot on the EHF European League.
The 20-year-old has risen through the youth ranks to become a senior team player at Barça, bringing the same goalscoring prowess that served Barça Atlètic so well, while his 1.98 metres mean he can also provide cover anywhere in defence.
Barrufet, son of legendary goalkeeper David, made his first team debut on 18 March 2023 against Cuenca in the cup and has contributed 49 Liga Asobal goals and two in the Champions League.
At Melsungen he will gain important experience under coach Roberto García Parrondo in what is generally considered the strongest league in the world.
Barrufet: 'The dream I wanted'
Ian Barrufet said "I am very happy to renew my contract. Playing for Barça has always been my dream. The last two years I have played with the reserves but got time with the first team and have enjoyed it like a little kid."
"Melsungen is a great team and this is a wonderful opportunity for me. I hope to learn a lot so that when I come back I am a better player."
