FC Barcelona handball coach Carlos Ortega is to remain at the club until 2027. Victory in the EHF Champions League has automatically activated the option to an additional year on his contract.
Ortega signed a new contract until 2026 last October, on agreement that he could stay for an extra year if he led the team to the European title. He has been in the job since 2021, winning two EHF Champions League (2021/22 & 2023/24), three Liga Asobal (2021/22, 2022/23 & 2023/24) and every other domestic trophy on offer.
The season just ended the team won all seven competitions, including a third Champions League in just four years, and a record 12th in total.
And Carlos Ortega has now won the European title more times than anybody, six as a player and twice as a coach, all of them while with FC Barcelona.
