Jonatan Giráldez: 'We don't have to do anything out of the ordinary'

The Barça Women coach and Aitana Bonmatí are confident that the team will "show their best side" to come back at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea and make it to the Champions League final

The Barça Women squad are now in London ready for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Chelsea. The blaugranes will have to turn around a 1-0 deficit after defeat in the first leg at the Estadi Olímpic if they are to make the final which will be played in Bilbao on 25 May.

A great challenge...but not the biggest

Even though it is a challenge to come back in the tie, it is not the biggest the team has faced according to both coach Jonatan Giráldez and midfielder Aitana Bonmatí. "Last season we had the challenge of coming back from two goals at half time in the Champions League final. Tomorrow we have to play well, deserve to win and get through," said the Galician coach.

Giráldez admitted that Chelsea "played really well defensively" in the first leg in Montjuïc. Aitana Bonmatí admitted that it was unusual for the team to find themselves "in a situation like this one during the season, but these games motivate you and it brings out the best in the team." The Ballon d'Or winner added that the team "knew how to come back in the final in 45 minutes, why not do it in an entire game."

The mental game

Aitana made it clear that the team "always goes out to win, the only way we know," when pressed about the come back. She added: "If we had won in Montjuïc, we would still have come here to win." Coach Giráldez concluded: "You have to be strong mentally to overcome adversity but also on the pitch."
