FC Barcelona in second place in the league
A great win for FC Barcelona against Atlético Madrid in the Cívitas Metropolitano comes with a great reward. The three points picked up in the capital allow Barça to reclaim second place in the table with 64 points, two ahead of Girona following their 1-0 defeat against Getafe on Saturday.
20 of the last 24 points
Reclaiming second place, and a place in the Spanish Super Cup next season, is a consequence of Barça's excellent recent form. Since coach Xavi Hernández announced his departure at the end of the season, his team have picked up 20 of 24 points on offer without losing a single game.
Now in second place in the table in La Liga, Barça retain hopes of battling for the league title with leaders Real Madrid eight points ahead following their 4-2 win at Osasuna on Saturday.
