Being a Barça striker is a job reserved for the very best. As many as 18 goal-getters have arrived at the club in the last decade, the most recent being Vitor Roque, the tiger from Athlético Paranaense. And in just 93 minutes of league football, the Brazilian has already scored twice.
He came on as a substitute against Osasuna and after just 28 seconds on the pitch, he was heading in a João Cancelo assist to score the only goal of the 1-0 win.
Just three days later he again came on as a replacement against Alavés, and once again he found the back of the net, his well-taken finish meaning that he has scored one goal for every 46.5 minutes that he has been on the pitch. Quite some return!
Lewandowski the machine
One of his colleagues in attack is one of the best in the world in the goalscoring department. The Pole scored 23 goals in his first season at Barça. working out at one every 123.96 minutes. Factoring in his seven assists, that was a goal participation rate of one every 95.03 minutes.
Stat-tastic
Luis Suárez is another player who took no time at all to start racking up the goals. After arriving from Liverpool he was serving a lengthy suspension, but once he was clear to play, his 16 goals amounted to one every 136.19 minutes, which became one every 76.73 minutes when including his 14 assists.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang didn't disappoint either when he joined midway through the 2021/22 season, scoring 11 goals (one every 99.27 minutes) and also giving one assist (one goal participation every 91 minutes).
And Luuk de Jong was only at the club for 21 games, but his six goals equate to one every 107 minutes.
It's early days yet, but for the moment, Vitor Roque is up there with the greats of recent years who could all be relied upon to produce one goal for every 90 minutes they were given. And that is exactly what you want from a striker!
