Barça Atlètic 2-1 Real Sociedad B: Winning again

Barça Atlètic have beaten Real Sociedad B 2-1 at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. That avenged the defeat in the Basque Country earlier in the season in a turbulent encounter that saw Ibrahima Camara for the visitors and Mikayil Faye for the home side both sent off. Diego Percan and Jaume Cuéllar set up a 2-0 lead for Barça, while Jon Merino pulled one back for Real Sociedad B.

The three points push Barça Atlètic up to sixth in their division, matched on points with the side they beat today.

Against ten men

It had been a tight battle in which the best of the chances fell to Bolivian international Jaume Cuéllar, but the visiting keeper outwitted him in the one-on-one, until the game-changing incident late in the first half. Camara was adjudged to have made last-man tackle and was given his matching orders, although Mikayil Faye was frustrated when his penalty was tipped behind for a corner.

Playing against ten men, Barça were bale to punish their guest when a sweet one-two between Pau Víctor and Diego Percan produced the first goal of the game. And just three minutes later an acrobatic assist from Pau Víctor gave Jaume Cuéllar the chance to double up the lead. And this time he did indeed take that chance.

Three big points

Into the second half and the intensity was all blaugrana. Diego Percan twice came close to claiming his second goal of the game, but the whole dynamic changed when Barça were also reduced to ten men. Mikayil Faye, back in the starting eleven today, brought down Norwegian striker Bryan Fiabema as he was about to shoot, and that was the end of his game.

Playing with a renewed verve, Real Sociedad surged forward in pursuit of a comeback, and they did indeed manage to pull one goal back when Jon Merino got his head on the end of a free kick. It was suddenly a nervier ending that Barça Atlètic might have hoped for, but they stood their ground, and that's three very important points to add to the collection.
