Barça have reached the Spanish Super Cup final once again after beating Osasuna 2-0 in the semi-final in Riyadh. The tournament is one that the blaugranes have won on 14 occasions and Sunday’s final against Real Madrid will be their 26th appearance in the fixture.
Since 2020 the Spanish Super Cup has been a four team tournament played in Saudi Arabia involving the La Liga winners and runners-up and the Copa del Rey champions and beaten finalists. Were Xavi’s team to win on Sunday they would be the first club to retain the trophy in the current format.
Barça and Real Madrid have met on eight occasions in the final of the Spanish Super Cup with Barça having won two of those encounters. In 2011 the blaugranes came out on top over two legs and last season Xavi’s team won 3-1 in the final in Saudi Arabia.
The teams have met in seven Copa del Rey finals with Barça winning three. In 1983 the blaugranes also defeated Real Madrid in the short-lived Copa de la Liga.
