International week as it happened

It's another international break, and once again a host of FC Barcelona players will be away representing their countries in different competitive matches and friendlies:

TUESDAY 21 NOVEMBER

AUSTRIA 2-0 GERMANY
İlkay Gündoğan captained the Euro2024 hosts in this friendly defeat to neighbours Austria, his side going down to 10 men early in the second half.

POLAND 2-0 LATVIA
A goal for Robert Lewandowski helped Poland to a win over Latvia, the blaugrana striker scoring the second just after half time.

GREECE 2-2 FRANCE
Jules Koundé played 64 minutes for already qualified France as they drew away to third placed Greece in this Euro2024 Group B match.

BRAZIL 0-1 ARGENTINA
In a game marred by the crowd violence that delayed the kick-off, Raphinha played 72 minutes and received a yellow card as Brazil lost at home to Argentina. It was the first time ever that Brazil have lost at home in a World Cup qualifier. Otamendi's 63rd minute winner meant back-to-back defeats for the 5-time world champions, who have dropped to sixth in the Conmebol table.

URUGUAY 3-0 BOLIVIA
Ronald Araujo played the whole game at right back as Uruguay had little trouble seeing off Bolivia (for whom Barça Atlètics's Jaume Cuellar did not feature). The 3-0 victory means they stay second behind leaders Argentina.

BELGIUM U21 1-1 SPAIN U21
Spain drew their first of five games in their qualifying group so far, but remain three points ahead on top of the table, Fermín López playing 70 minutes of the match.

MONDAY 20 NOVEMBER

NORTHERN IRELAND 2-0 DENMARK
Andreas Christensen played all 90 minutes as Denmark lost 2-0 in Belfast in a game that was never going to make any difference to the greater scheme of things, with the Danes already safely through to the Euro 24 finals.

SUNDAY 19 NOVEMBER

SPAIN 3-1 GEORGIA
Spain's ultimately meaningless game in Valladolid brought worrying news for Barça fan when Gavi had to leave the field after 26 minutes with a knee injury. FC Barcelona should be able to give details of the extent of the problem in due course. Ferran Torres and Iñigo Martinez also started the match, and Torres converted the second of Spain's three goals and celebrated by holding his injured team-mate's shirt aloft in the air. Lamine Yamal came on as a second half substitute and played a part in the third goal when Georgian defender Lochoshvili, in an attempt to head clear the young Barça man's strike, ended up turning the ball into his own net.

PORTUGAL 2-0 ICELAND
João Cancelo and João Félix both played 87 minutes of Portugal's win, another one that made no difference to the qualification stakes as Portugal are already through and Iceland are already out.

SATURDAY 18 NOVEMBER

FRANCE 14-0 GIBRALTAR  
Jules Kounde was an unused substitute in France's record breaking win in Nice against 10 man Gibraltar. Mbappé helped himself to a hat-trick and former blaugrana Ousmane Dembélé was also on the scoresheet. 

GERMANY 2-3 TURKEY 
Ilkay Gündoğan played all 90 minutes in Berlin and wore the captain's armband but could not prevent his team from going down to defeat in the friendly against Turkey.

FRIDAY 17 NOVEMBER

POLAND 1-1 CZECH REPUBLIC
Lewandowski played all 90 minutes as Poland were held to a 1-1 draw in Warsaw, meaning that all hope of a direct berth to Euro 24 is lost and Poland will instead need to wait to see if they get a berth in the playoffs, which as things stand is looking highly likely.

DENMARK 2-1 SLOVENIA
Goals from Maehle and Delaney win it for Denmark and Andreas Christensen and that means they are mathematically assured of a spot at Euro 2024.

SPAIN U21 2-0 HUNGARY U21
Pablo Torre, currently on loan to Girona from Barça, scored one of the two goals in Huelva that make it four wins in four games for Spain in their Euro 25 qualifying group. Torre had come on as a 62nd minute replacement for Fermín López.

THURSDAY 16 NOVEMBER

CYPRUS 1-3 SPAIN
Gavi and Lamine Yamal both started for Spain, with the latter showing great composure to open the scoring after just 5 minutes, before being replaced by his blaugrana teammate Ferran Torres after 73 minutes. Spain moved into outright 1st place in the Euro 2024 Qualifying Group A table with this win over bottom side Cyprus, as second placed Scotland could only draw away to Georgia. 

LIECHTENSTEIN 0-2 PORTUGAL
João Cancelo scored and joined fellow blaugrana João Félix in playing 87 minutes for Portugal as they won 2-0 away to Liechtenstein in a one-sided Euro 2024 Group J game, as first place in the table visited last.

BOLIVIA 2-0 PERU
Jaume Cuellar's teammates took Bolivia off the bottom of the 2026 World Cup Conmebol qualification table, as they swapped places with opponents Peru with this 2-0 home win earning their first points of the campaign.

ARGENTINA 0-2 URUGUAY
Ronald Araujo scored his first ever goal for Uruguay in an impressive win away to the world champions. Shortly before half-time, the centre back converted Matías Viña's low cross. Darwin Nunez added another in the 87th minute and the result moves Uruguay up to second in the Conmebol table.
