Today Thursday brought the official presentation of the second season of the FC Barcelona, a New Era documentary series that presents exclusive images of how Xavi rebuilt the team over the course of last season, providing a new perspective on life inside the club at such a turning point of its fortunes.
Auditori 1899 was the venue for the presentation of a series that was already released on September 6 exclusively on Prime Video. FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta was there with several other members of the board, as was coach Xavi Hernández and the players who are back on duty after the international break.
Ricardo Cabornero, head of Spain and Portugal content on Prime Video was also there along with a variety of different members of the club management, staff and athletes, including former player and coach Juan Carlos Unzué.
There was a red carpet welcome for the guests before a screening of some of the highlights from the series depicting how Barça fought their way back to the top of the football world and conquered the Liga title in such incontestable fashion.
Road to victory from the inside
The series follows the team's progress through the 2022/23 season across four episodes produced by Wakai in association with Barça Studios. It offers a brand new take on how Barça dealt with the many challenges of a difficult campaign, with never-before-seen footage providing some completely new angles on how Xavi and his team battled their way through some big matches.
It's a fly-on-the-wall view of how the squad was overhauled, and how a combination of new signings and fresh, young talent helped put the team back where it belongs, winning the Spanish Super Cup and la Liga, drawing thousands of fans back to Spotify Camp Nou. The films present a fabulous picture of the injection of new hope into a club that had gone through a troubled period, but was now back on track to glory.
The first five episodes of 'FC Barcelona, a New Era' were released almost a year ago in December 2022 and focused on Xavi's arrival at the club and the first few games of the season. Now watch the next part of the story in a second season that's available in over 240 countries around the world via Prime Video.
Statement by Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona
"This is a journey we are still on as we seek to consolidate this new era with further success. We would like this new era to be remembered for the expectation it reawakened in Barça fans. And I thank the players and the club for everything they do every day so we can set new standards in the football world."
Statement by Ricardo Cabornero, head of Prime Video content for Spain and Portugal
“The first season of FC Barcelona, a New Era was the most watched sports series of 2022. Gaining access to the dressing room and the players meant we could enjoy a great production and wonderful content. That was reflected in the final results.”
