DALLAS, TEXAS — This Saturday's match in Dallas promises to be very, very special. Especially for Sergi Roberto, who will make his debut in EL Clásico as the first captain in an incomparable setting: AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
"A Clásico is always different from any other match," the 31-year-old Roberto said at Friday's pregame press conference. "It's true that we have only played one match and we had a stomach problem, but against Real Madrid, you always have to go out to win, and I believe it will be a highly contested match."
Despite being an El Clásico, which the whole world is eagerly awaiting, Sergi Roberto also mentioned that the most important thing is for the team to continue building physical fitness. "The goal is to get in the best possible shape and for the young players and newcomers to adapt as quickly as possible. These matches are for physical and tactical preparation," he said.
"Proud" to be the captain
Sergi Roberto also reflected on becoming the team's first captain just a week ago. "It's a dream I had as a Barça fan since I was little, and it's an honor and a source of pride," he explained. When asked about possibly lifting the upcoming Champions League trophy at Wembley, he said, "it is an image that I have in my mind and it would be very special."
Regarding the current squad, Sergi Roberto believes that "it is the best in the world," while also acknowledging that the three signings made — Iñigo Martínez, Gündogan, and Oriol Romeu — have improved the squad from last season.
