LOS ANGELES — One year ago, Alejandro Balde traveled to the United States with an uncertain future. During the preseason, he was one of the top performers, earning a spot in the squad, and even in the starting lineup. He became a regular for Xavi and, this season, he is determined to keep progressing.
"I have the same excitement and desire as last year, and I want to keep learning," he acknowledged during the media briefing at Monday's morning training session.
In fact, it was the team's first workout after the viral gastroenteritis that affected a significant part of the squad forced the cancellation of the match against Juventus.
"I was one of the ones affected by the virus, but the most important thing is that we are all well now. The team is in good shape, although it's a shame for the fans who couldn't attend the match," he explained.
Balde's renewal, getting closer
Regarding the upcoming match against Arsenal this Wednesday, Balde is also excited. "It will be a Champions League-type match, and it will help us gauge ourselves," he said.
Asked about his contract situation, Alejandro Balde admitted that both parties could soon reach an agreement.
"It is true that there have been conversations, and we are close, but it's something I leave in the hands of my representatives and the Club," Balde said. "I hope it gets resolved soon."
Balde on his teammates
Alejandro Balde also shared his thoughts on several players in the squad. He expressed his happiness about Ansu Fati being in the United States since he is "like a brother" to him.
As for Lamine Yamal, Balde described him as a "very young" player but with "a lot of quality." He also praised Fermí, whom he has known since the Under-14 team and who has been making a strong impression in preseason training.
